Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Our Commitment
KINDLE is dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and spiritually uplifting environment for all attendees. We believe that every young person has the right to feel secure, respected, and protected from harm while participating in our events at KINDLE Camp and KINDLE Plus.
Vetting and Background Checks
We take the recruitment of our team incredibly seriously. Every volunteer, speaker, and staff member involved in KINDLE events is required to complete a thorough application process. This includes mandatory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for anyone interacting with attendees under the age of 18. References are also required and verified before any volunteer is permitted to serve.
Training and Equipping
Before any camp or retreat begins, our entire team undergoes specific safeguarding training. This ensures they are fully equipped to recognize signs of abuse, handle disclosures appropriately, and maintain clear professional boundaries. We emphasize a culture of transparency and accountability across all leadership levels.
Supervision and Ratios
We strictly adhere to the recommended adult to child supervision ratios set out by UK youth work guidelines. During KINDLE Camp, attendees are placed into small groups with dedicated leaders to ensure everyone receives adequate attention, care, and supervision throughout the duration of the trip.
Reporting Concerns
We have a clear and accessible procedure for reporting any welfare concerns. KINDLE United appoints a Designated Safeguarding Lead for every event. This person is the primary point of contact for attendees, parents, and volunteers regarding any safety issues. Contact details for the Designated Safeguarding Lead are provided to all parents and guardians prior to the start of camp.
Working with Venues
We partner exclusively with reputable locations like the Barnstondale Centre and Pioneer Centre. We review their independent safety, security, and safeguarding protocols to ensure they align perfectly with our own high standards.
